The recovery of the LED industry promotes the rapid growth of downstream demand. It is estimated that by 2016, the global demand for sapphire in the LED field will reach 101.93 million mm. In 2017, the overall scale of China's LED industry was 636.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 21%. Among them, upstream chips are growing rapidly, midstream packaging is developing steadily, and downstream applications are maintaining rapid growth. According to the LED Research Institute, the compound growth rate of China's LED industry output value will reach about 18% from 2018 to 2020, and China's LED output value will exceed 1 trillion in 2020.

The application proportion of high-purity alumina in sapphire continues to rise. With the rapid development of the LED industry, the application of high-purity alumina in sapphire crystals has received more and more attention, and sapphire crystals have also become the main consumption of high-purity alumina. Sapphire is currently the most widely used and most industrialized LED chip substrate material. According to statistics from Yole Developpement, global sapphire manufacturers supply more than 92% of total sales to LED epitaxial factories. With the continuous expansion of downstream demand in the LED industry chain, the sapphire market is showing a trend of rapid development. It is estimated that in the next three years, the compound annual growth rate of the LED sapphire market will be as high as about 24%, and the market's demand for sapphire-grade high-purity alumina will also increase. At present, from the perspective of application classification, the application of sapphire substrate material is the main application of sapphire. According to the statistics of France Yole, the application of sapphire substrate material accounts for about 75%, and the application of non-substrate material accounts for about 25%. Among them, the substrate materials are mainly used in semiconductor lighting (LED) substrate materials and SOS related products, of which LED substrate materials account for more than 95%. Non-substrate materials are mainly used in military and weapon-related applications, but are less used in consumer electronic terminals.

High-purity ultra-fine alumina used for LED substrates has a large growth space. From the perspective of the global market, the production of 10,000 mm 2-inch sapphire ingots requires 0.7 tons of high-purity alumina. In 2013, the world consumed 4292 tons of high-purity alumina in the LED field, and in 2016 it reached 7,135 tons, a compound annual growth rate. 17%. In the next four years, in view of the overall development trend of the LED industry, according to a 10% compound annual growth rate forecast, by 2020, the demand for high-purity ultra-fine alumina for LED substrates will be approximately 10,417 tons. From the perspective of the domestic market, in 2013, China's LED wafer production capacity accounted for about 27% of the global market, corresponding to the demand for high-purity alumina of 1,159 tons. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the Ministry of Information and Information predicts that the output value of the LED industry will remain 20-30% in the future Taking into account the downward trend of LED product prices, assuming that the price and the end product (such as the price of LED bulbs) maintain the same rate of decline (the average annual price drops by 18%), the domestic output will increase by 30-45% every year, by 2016 In 2010, domestic LED substrate production will consume more than 3,167 tons of high-purity alumina. In the next four years, based on a 20% compound annual growth rate forecast, by 2020, the domestic demand for high-purity ultra-fine alumina for LED substrates will be about 6,556 tons.
